Today we’re talking about our top 3 tips for traveling with infants & toddlers. I wanted to start with this topic because unfortunately, so many parents assume that they need to stop traveling once they have kids.
Does it change how, where and when you travel? Yes, of course! But you can totally do this! You can easily adjust & adapt your travel to include your kids – even the tiniest ones.
Babies are definitely a lot – bottles, diapers, nap schedules and whatnot. The biggest change for us honestly, was having to have more of a “scheduled trip” to work around his needs.
The goal is to make tons of memories that you look back on & think “wow – that was a great trip!”
Here we go:
Less is more – don’t jam pack your day; you simply just can’t do as much when you have little ones; focus on one main thing for each day and then a backup thing if the day is going smoothly
Find a playground – this can be easier sometimes than others depending on where you’re traveling to; they’re usually free (just talking about a local public playground); they get to be outside and get some energy out; it’s familiar yet totally new
Keep a similar bedtime routine – whatever you can do to bring some normalcy to the bedtime routine will help them self-regulate, which is extra important when you’re on vacation and things are a little off-kilter for them; don’t forget their special lovie, pillow or cup if that helps them; we also try to bring a few of our favorite bedtime books with us
