No-Tech Toys for Kids Over 3

Last week, we shared some of our favorite no-technology toys for little ones under 3.  This week we want to share the activities that keep Hunter super entertained, and honestly, even Gage sometimes as he’s growing up!

Examples of low-tech or no-tech toys for kids over age 3. Included are books, train tracks, crayons, Plus Plus blocks, magnetic tiles, shapes puzzles, Play-Doh, drawing tablet, and dinosaur puzzle.

Magnetic Tiles

These have been a favorite of Hunter’s for quite some time now.  We actually have the off brand (PicassoTiles instead of MagnaTiles), but they have been great.  We’ve added to the collection a few times and even have these cars.  Seriously keeps them entertained for hoursssss.

Plus Plus Blocks (or good ole’ legos)

Hunter has really been enjoying building things recently.  These plus plus blocks are a newer find, but I love that they are versatile and don’t take up a ton of space!  You can also get them in this tube if you only want a few at a time.  You can also grab a small set of legos (great for travel) to try out if you’re not sure if they’ll be a hit or not.

Train Tracks

We talked about these in the Under-3 post, but they’re great for older kids too!

Play Doh

We don’t do this for the under 3 because they could eat it; but by the time they hit 3 or 4, they can usually be trusted 😉  This works their motor skills as well as creativity.  They also have accessory/tool kits out there which allows them to further expand their creativity.

Puzzles

We actually really love the Ravensberger brand puzzles.  They are good quality at reasonable prices.  They tell you the number of pieces and age on the outside of the box.  Gage (who will be 3) quickly moved from the 4+ to the 6+.  He needs a little more help with the 6+ but the challenge definitely keeps him more focused!

Drawing Board

Another one we mentioned in the previous post.  The boys each have their own to help prevent squabbling (though it still happens…).

Shapes Puzzle

Yup, another repeat from the previous list, but definitely a fan favorite (i.e. one that they always fight over)

Crayons, Paper & Workbooks

These really never fail.  I know it may seem ‘old school,’ but you can do so much with paper and crayons.  Ask them to draw you a yellow circle, practice writing their name, or just do whatever comes to mind – the possibilities are endless!

Books

Hunter is our little bookworm.  I just love seeing him cozied up in the corner of the playroom SO engrossed in his books!  I can’t wait to introduce him to chapter books soon; but if your little one isn’t reading yet … consider books with seek and find, lots of pictures, flaps that they can move, etc.

welcome!

and this is where it all began

As a wife, mom, and business owner, I started this blog as a passion project to share all the things I’ve learned throughout my journey.

To say it’s been a crazy ride would be the understatement of the century, but we have loved sharing our adventures every step of the way.

That’s why I always come back to where it started – this very blog – to continue sharing my tips, tricks, triumphs, and tribulations about all things motherhood, money, business, traveling, and everything in between.

I hope that by sharing these authentic, unfiltered experiences, you can feel seen and heard and learn to embrace the wonder in this messy (but oh, so wonderful) life.
