The Back to School Transition for Kids

It’s back to school time and that means new routines!

We have a lot more tantrums and meltdowns when Hunter is thrown off his routine.  We talked about how we’re adjusting him to summer in episode 18, but today we’re talking about the good things about going back to school, some of the things we look forward to, the things that cause us hardships and how we move past those.

The Good Things This Year

  • He’s in the same hallways
  • School times are the same
  • He has the same enrichment activities (like library, music, spanish)

The Things We Look Forward

  • Our rhythm is the same day in and day out pretty much
  • Having a consistent routine is so much better for him
  • He loves learning

The Things That Create Difficulties

  • Being in a new classroom
  • Having a new teacher (and not the one he thought he’d have)
  • Having new classmates (they get mixed up between two classes each year)
  • Having a new schedule in class and when he goes to different activities
  • Having a new routine for a new grade level

What We’re Doing to Help

  • Being strategic about when we tell him new information
  • Giving him extra brain breaks after the school day
  • Allowing him to be more “silly” and less focused
  • Giving him some grace to be extra clingy or quick to react
  • Getting him to bed early

We hope you found this helpful and are wishing you a successful back to school start 🙂

I'm Kimberly

and this is where it all began

As a wife, mom, and business owner, I started this blog as a passion project to share all the things I’ve learned throughout my journey.

To say it’s been a crazy ride would be the understatement of the century, but we have loved sharing our adventures every step of the way.

That’s why I always come back to where it started – this very blog – to continue sharing my tips, tricks, triumphs, and tribulations about all things motherhood, money, business, traveling, and everything in between.

I hope that by sharing these authentic, unfiltered experiences, you can feel seen and heard and learn to embrace the wonder in this messy (but oh, so wonderful) life.
